Concorde Career College Nursing Programs

With the growing demand for healthcare services at clinics and outpatient care centers throughout the nation, the need for nurses has never been greater.

Outside of hospitals, in many situations, nurses are the ones who have taken on the role of primary care provider. And with the long-term care needs of an increasingly elderly population on the rise, it’s no surprise that the employment of licensed practical nurses is expected to grow by 14 percent by 2016,* and as much as 23 percent for registered nurses during that same period.

If you want to become part of this fast paced career field, we can help.

At Concorde, we specialize in healthcare training. We offer a number of medical programs to help you get into the nursing career you’ve always dreamed of.

You’ll find that the nursing programs at Concorde reflect the variety of skill and experience levels within the nursing occupation—including Practical Nursing, Vocational Nurse and the A.A.S. in Nursing, Bridge Program Option that will prepare you to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.

Nursing

Concorde’s Nursing program consists of six, ten week terms. The program leads to an Associate degree while preparing students to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX.RN). Graduates that pass the NCLEX.RN can enter the healthcare workforce as confident, competent professional nurses. Our RN training program produces highly skilled and educated RNs that are prepared to function in the roles of provider of care, manager of care, and contributing member of a healthcare team. While at the bedside, the RN is accountable for decisions that impact the healthcare outcomes for the patient.

Beginning students in this program are enrolled in general education courses, nursing theory courses, and clinical practice. The nursing courses begin with Foundations courses that introduce students to the practice of nursing, nursing theories, legal and ethical issues in nursing, and basic concepts of patient care. Students then advance through nursing courses that include more complex concepts in patient care and specialty nursing areas such as mental health, maternal-child nursing and care of pediatric patients.

Nursing, Bridge Program Option

Concorde’s Nursing bridge program option consists of six, ten week terms, and leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree while preparing students to take the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX.RN). Graduates that pass the NCLEX.RN can enter the healthcare workforce as confident, competent professional nurses. The scope of the RN's practice is defined in the State of Colorado's Nurse Practice Act.

Applicants who meet all admission criteria and possess a current, unencumbered license to practice in the State of Colorado as LPN's will be given advanced standing and receive credit for basic nursing courses on review of official transcripts.

Applicants enrolling in the Bridge Program Option begin their nursing courses with a Life Span transitions course. This course is designed to transition the student from the role of a practical nurse to the role of a registered nurse. The content is based on successful completion and licensure of the LPN and prior studies and work experience. Ethical, legal and theoretical principles, boundaries, issues and challenges facing the professional registered nurse are covered. The LPN is introduced to critical-thinking, therapeutic communication and research processes.

Upon successful completion of the Life Span Transitions Course, the Transition/Bridge students then advance through nursing courses that include more complex concepts in patient care and specialty nursing areas such as mental health, maternal-child nursing, and care of pediatric patients.

Practical Nursing

Concorde’s Practical Nursing program is extensive, hands-on learning in a one-year program. Much of the preparation for nursing focuses on supervised clinical experiences with real clients in real healthcare facilities. This clinical component of education is one of the major strengths of the practical nursing program. Upon completion of the program and passing the licensing examination, the LPN can enter the workforce as a competent, skilled nurse. Practical nurses provide bedside nursing care at the direction of physicians and/or registered nurses.

As a licensed professional, the LPN uses the nursing process for patient assessment, to contribute to the nursing diagnosis made by the RN and for planning, implementation, and evaluation in providing care. LPNs are integral to nursing. They provide individualized care in a variety of healthcare settings such as acute care, long-term care, home healthcare, and other community healthcare agencies.

Because of the versatility in their study, LPNs are among the most patient-focused members of any healthcare team.

Vocational Nurse/Nursing

Concorde’s Vocational Nursing program is extensive, hands-on learning in a one-year program. Much of the preparation for nursing focuses on supervised clinical experiences with real clients in real healthcare facilities. This clinical component of education is one of the major strengths of the vocational nursing program. Upon completion of the program and passing the licensing examination, the LVN can enter the workforce as a competent, skilled nurse. Vocational nurses provide bedside nursing care at the direction of physicians and/or registered nurses.

As a licensed professional, the LVN uses the nursing process for patient assessment, to contribute to the nursing diagnosis made by the RN and for planning, implementation, and evaluation in providing care. LVNs are integral to nursing. They provide individualized care in a variety of healthcare settings such as acute care, long-term care, home healthcare, and other community healthcare agencies.

Because of the versatility in their study, LVNs are among the most patient-focused members of any healthcare team.
